The BEL Career Mentoring Program (CMP) connects highly motivated students from the University of Queensland’s Faculty of Business, Economics and Law with experienced industry professionals.
CMP helps mentees to design and build their future career, complementing their academic knowledge with their mentor’s experiences, industry insights and practical advice. Mentoring meetings cover a range of tailored and flexible employability topics which may include: goal setting; career planning; industry knowledge; key workplace attributes or skills; networking; workplace culture and the transition to work. Industry mentors play a key role in developing mentees into future leaders while simultaneously enhancing their own leadership and team development skills. Many mentors have advised that they have enjoyed experiencing the "world of work" from a fresh perspective.
Why become a mentor?
A mentor is a guide. An industry friend. A person who helps others succeed. The role of a mentor is to inspire, encourage, and support a student mentee, contributing to their development through thoughtful conversation and consultation.
Why become a mentee?
CMP is a career booster, giving you a significant advantage by connecting you to UQ’s extensive industry network. CMP mentors have specifically volunteered to help you gain knowledge, skills, insights and networks to advance your career and open new professional opportunities. As a CMP mentee, you can get the support and confidence that you need to tackle short and long-term goals, navigate challenges and accelerate your growth.
