The University of Queensland (UQ) student experience is about more than just classes and assignments. It is also about the connections you make with the people you meet, and the fun you have along the way. 

BEL Global Mates is a peer based Mates program that assists new international Business Economics and Law  students settle in and connect with the University, Brisbane and Australian culture.  Existing students (Mentors) help new International students (Mentees) adjust to their new university life, meet new people and exchange cultures through fun activities and exploring what UQ, Brisbane and South East Queensland have to offer.

The program

BEL Global Mates is a semester long program that includes organised events, regular catch-ups, and visits to local attractions that foster culture exchange and mateship.  The program ensures that the international students' transition is fun and enjoyable, to make the most of their time at UQ. 


Who can be a Mentor

Domestic students who are currently enrolled in a BEL undergraduate program with more than 12 months completed (12 units), or international or domestic students enrolled in a postgraduate program with more than 6 months completed (8 units) are eligible to apply.


Who can be a Mentee

Any new international students enrolled in and just starting their first semester as in an undergraduate or postgraduate program at UQ BEL Faculty are eligible to apply.
