The UQ HDR Career Development Mentoring Program focuses on higher degree by research (HDR) candidates' broad professional and career development by pairing them with respected professionals working in a variety of economic and societal sectors, both within and outside of academia.
Join As
Mentor Mentors are professionals who guide and advise students in their career paths to help them succeed. A mentor's role is to inspire, encourage, and support their mentee.
For this program, mentors should ideally:
Possess a higher degree by research (including PhD, Professional Doctorate, or Masters by Research), or h ave equivalent relevant experience (such as employing or supervising HDR graduates), and
Have at least 5 years professional experience to draw from.
Mentor EOIs will be accepted at any time. Please check the

Mentee Mentees are HDR candidates who want guidance and advice to explore their career options. Mentees should be looking to strengthen and build their networks, and gain the skills and confidence necessary to excel.
For this program, mentees should:
Be actively enrolled in a UQ Higher Degree by Research (HDR) program, and
Have successfully completed their Confirmation Review (R1), and
Not have any overdue progress reviews, and
Be able to complete the mentoring program prior to submitting their thesis.
