Welcome to Professional Futures – a Peer Mentoring Program

You are about to embark on an exciting journey at UQ. If you are new to Audiology, Dietetics, Exercise and Nutrition Sciences, Exercise Sports Science, Health Sport and Physical Education, Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy or Speech Pathology, you are in the right place.

Every journey is exciting, but all new experiences take time to navigate and understand. No one knows this more than our Professional Futures Peer Mentors. These mentors have walked in your shoes and are now in the later years of your programs. By signing up to this peer mentoring program, your mentors will support you in navigating a new academic environment, inspire you to think about the exciting career you will embark on at the end of this journey and connect you with your peers. Be connected with other students, right from the start.

About the peer mentoring program

The Professional Futures Peer Mentoring Program supports health and sports science first year students in the School of Human Movement and Nutrition Sciences (HMNS) and the School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences (SHRS) through their transition to university, academic adjustment and preparation for placements and career.

As a mentee in the Program, you will connect with a group of 15-20 of your fellow students who are also enrolled in your study program here at UQ. You will be matched with 2 peer mentors who will be in the later years of your study program. These peer mentors will draw upon their own lived experiences to provide insight and advice on topics specific to your first-year student group.

Professional Futures is a year-long peer mentoring program for students in SHRS and HMNS.
You can expect tailored support from your peer mentors, around the themes of:

Navigating Life @ UQ
Studying @ UQ
My Career @ UQ

Why have a peer mentor?

A peer mentor is a friendly face that you can approach. They might have the answer to that question you’ve been afraid to ask, or know where to go for help. Professional Futures peer mentors want to share their lived experiences and insights so you can start your journey at UQ with confidence, and with a supportive community behind you. Our Professional Futures mentors all come from the School of Human Movement and Nutrition Sciences (HMNS) and the School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences (SHRS) – your schools, so they have experience here at UQ already.
